Wrongful death suit filed against local dentist in DUI case

Tampa, Florida — The mother of a young woman killed in a crash as she walked over the Harbour Island bridge toward her car is filing a civil wrongful death lawsuit against the man who police say was behind the wheel.

24-year-old Kate Kohlier and her co-worker at the Marriott Waterside, 23-year-old Douglas Kozar were killed in the crash. Another co-worker, Jaoa Barobosa was injured as he jumped out of the way that early October 30th morning.

Barbosa filed a civil suit against Moye last week.

On Wednesday, Kohlier’s mother Cindy Collins and her attorney, Tom Carey, announced they are filing the suit against 34-year-old Matthew Moye.

Moye, a Riverview dentist, was driving away from a Halloween party when Tampa police say he hit Kohlier and Kozar from behind at a high rate of speed.

Moye refused to give his blood, but blood was drawn after his arrest to determine whether he was drivng under the influence. Results could take six weeks.
