Thanksgiving Holiday Brings Traffic Accidents

The start of the Thanksgiving Day holiday resulted in several traffic accidents, a suspected DUI and an alleged domestic incident, the West Hartford police reported Friday.

In a 48-hour period from noon Wednesday until noon Friday, police investigated 25 traffic accidents.

A Simsbury woman was taken into custody Wednesday at 7:48 p.m. after she was observed by police driving erratically in the area of Magnolia Hill and Crabapple Drive. Hanna Hassan, 53, who gave addresses in Simsbury and Florida, was charged with DUI, her third alleged drunken driving offense in Connecticut.

Police received several reports of Hassan allegedly driving across lawns in the area.

On Thanksgiving Day, police responded to a report of domestic violence on Middlefield Drive. Police arrested a woman at 1:45 p.m. for allegedly threatening her grandmother with a knife.

The woman was held on $50,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court Friday, police said. No other details were immediately available.
