Teen in DUI crash gets 6 years in prison

A South Florida teen was sentenced to six years in prison for a DUI crash that left a pizza delivery man dead.

Nineteen-year-old Beruch Zegeye was sentenced Thursday. The prison term is to be followed by seven years probation.

Zegeye had pleaded guilty in Palm Beach County to driving under the influence manslaughter and other charges.

He had no plea deal and faced up to 20 years in prison.

Authorities say Zegeye was drunk when he left a party in September 2008 and crashed into 45-year-old Paul Krommendyk, who was working his second job as a Domino’s Pizza delivery man.

A reconstruction of the crash determined that Zegeye was traveling about 80 miles per hour when he struck Krommendyk’s car. The delivery man was killed instantly.
