PACIFICA — Pacifica police arrested a 57-year-old man Sunday morning on suspicion of DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and vehicular manslaughter after he returned to the location where the victim had been struck and killed early Sunday.
About 1:36 a.m. the California Highway Patrol received a report of a dead man on Skyline Boulevard near Hickey Boulevard in Pacifica. CHP officers found the body in the southbound lanes of Skyline near Sharp Park Road. Pacifica police were notified and began an investigation.
About 30 minutes later, a man came to the scene and told officers he had struck the man who had been walking in the lanes of traffic. Police determined that the man, identified as Leopoldo Tobilla, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision and arrested him on suspicion of DUI resulting in fatal injury, leaving the scene of collision that lead to a fatal injury and vehicular manslaughter.
The San Bruno resident was booked at San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of his family.
Skyline Boulevard from Sharp Park Road to Manor Drive was closed for about six hours while officers investigated. Police ask anyone with information about the accident to call them 650-738-7314.
