Sacto 9-1-1: Local police to conduct holiday DUI crackdown

The California Highway Patrol will also conduct a saturation patrol in North Sacramento, as part of the 2010 Holiday DUI Enforcement Campaign, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety.

The CHP’s maximum DUI enforcement period begins at 6 p.m. tonight and ends midnight Sunday, with all available officers deployed on the freeways and county roads they patrol.

Anyone convicted of driving drunk in Sacramento County may face stiff penalties. The county is participating in a program that requires all individuals convicted of first-time drunken driving offenses to have an interlock ignition device installed in their cars.

A driver with the device in his or her car must give a clean breath sample, or the car will not start.
