CONCORD — A 21-year-old Martinez man was arrested early Saturday after he allegedly struck a police car and fled the scene, police said.
When Concord police responded at 12:15 a.m. to reports of a fight in the Danza Plaza parking lot on Concord Boulevard, they found two people fighting and several others watching, according to Lt. Steve Dyer. As an officer was driving through the parking lot toward the scene, a man driving away from the fight struck the left side of the officer’s patrol car.
Police told the suspect, Aaron Dwayne Grays, to stay where he was while they handled the fight. But Grays drove away almost immediately, police said, and headed east on Concord Boulevard. Other officers in the area quickly stopped Grays and gave him a sobriety test.
Police arrested Grays on suspicion of driving under the influence and misdemeanor hit and run. Grays was being held in Concord jail until the effects of the alcohol wore off.
