A Santa Ana man suspected of driving while under the influence during a rainstorm Tuesday smashed into a light pole in Irvine, killing one of the vehicle’s passengers, police said.
Tapu Aniceto Sitagata, 27, was arrested about a half-block away from Culver and Irvine Center drives about 3:07 a.m. on suspicion of felony DUI and hit-and-run.
Police said he was running away from the scene of the crash, which also injured a second passenger.
Sitagata suffered minor injuries and was being treated at a local hospital.
