Ex-Mount Prospect school bus driver guilty of DUI

A former school bus driver admitted in court Wednesday that she was drunk when she dropped off a busload of students last spring in Mount Prospect.

Betty Burden, 55, pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI. She had maintained her innocence since she was arrested on March 9 after police said her blood-alcohol content was 0.226 — nearly three times the legal limit for motorists.

Burden, who has since been fired from Mount Prospect School District 57, is to be sentenced Jan. 26. She could receive probation or up to three years in prison.
