Area law enforcement agencies are warning Super Bowl fans that
Santa Barbara County roads will have extra-heavy DUI patrols when
the NFL championship game is televised Sunday.
Football fans who want to get together and drink while they watch
the game should start planning now to designate a sober driver to
get everyone else home safely from the party, said Senior Deputy
Jeff Farmer of the county Sheriff’s Department.
Farmer coordinates “Avoid the 12,†the multi-jurisdictional
campaign that cracks down periodically on drunken drivers.
The next campaign will be March 17 for St. Patrick’s Day, Farmer
said.
The campaign is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety
with a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration.
