Crash expert to testify in Leyritz DUI death trial – WZVN

Associated Press – November 10, 2010 3:04 AM ET

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) – A crash reconstruction expert is the next key witness for Florida prosecutors in the DUI manslaughter trial of former major league baseball player Jim Leyritz.

The crash expert is expected to describe exactly what happened when Leyritz’s vehicle collided in December 2007 with one driven by 30-year-old Fredia Ann Veitch, who was killed.

Broward County prosecutors could rest their main case as early as Wednesday. Leyritz is accused of driving drunk and causing the crash by running a red light. If convicted, he faces between four and 15 years in prison.

Leyritz hit a dramatic home run to become a 1996 World Series hero for the New York Yankees. He played for several other teams in an 11-season career.
