Woman charged with DUI manslaughter in November fatal crash

A woman was arrested on Saturday in connection with a November crash that killed a woman in Brevard County and sent two children to the hospital with serious injuries, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers arrested 24-year-old Katrina Johnson, of Cocoa, on Saturday. She faces charges of DUI manslaughter, DUI with serious bodily injury and DUI with property damage in a Nov. 24 crash that claimed the life of 48-year-old Socorro Evans.

According to FHP Sgt. Kim Montes, the crash occurred near the intersection of Grissom Parkway and Canaveral Groves Boulevard at about 8:12 p.m. Troopers say Johnson’s 1999 Ford Taurus struck the rear of Evans’ 2000 Mitsubishi Montero “at a high rate of speed.”

Evans and two children in the vehicle were ejected, troopers said. The two children suffered serious injuries, but survived.

Investigators said Johnson’s blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was .227, nearly three times the legal limit for driving. She was booked into the Brevard County Jail on Saturday evening.
