Suspected DUI driver crashes through Santa Cruz front yards

SANTA CRUZ — Two men were arrested Thursday night after losing control of a white Chevrolet Suburban and careening through fences and two front yards to come to rest against a Miramar Drive home, police said.

The men were arrested on charges of being under the influence, and one will be arrested for driving under the influence, Deputy Chief Steve Clark said.

Officers are working to confirm who was driving, as at least one of them denied any involvement, Clark said.

Blood samples were taken from them and both suffered head injuries, he said.

“The one claiming to the passenger suffered a pretty significant injury,” Clark said.

Arrested were Gregory Lazarotti, 41, of Santa Cruz, and Michael Rouse, 44, of Bend, Ore.

The accident occurred about 10:15 p.m.
