Sheriff's deputy suspended following DUI charge

According to a Sheriff’s Office report, a traffic deputy on patrol around 2 a.m. on Saturday saw a black GMC pickup truck traveling erratically in the area of Overlook Road near the intersection of Carl Floyd Road in Winter Haven. The deputy stopped the pickup truck and the driver identified himself as off-duty Deputy Chad B. Jackson.

According to the report, the 22-year-old Jackson admitted that he had been drinking that evening and he then failed the field sobriety tests that were administered to him.

Jackson was arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail located in Bartow, where he submitted to a breath test that resulted in a blood-alcohol reading of .144. He was booked into the jail on one count of driving under the influence and was released on bond late Saturday afternoon.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Jackson was hired by the agency as a deputy sheriff in October 2008. His most recent assignment was with Central District Patrol, which is the Winter Haven area.

Jackson has been suspended pending disciplinary action.
