Police: York County man charged with DUI twice in one morning

Maryland State Police charged a York County man with drunken driving twice in one morning.

Troopers say Daniel Fitchett Jr., 34, of the 1300 block of Marburg Road in Manheim Township, was arrested for suspected DUI about 1 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Routes 90 and 589 in Worcester County.

He was later released, and troopers told him he was not, under state law, permitted to drive for 12 hours, police said.

After his release, Fitchett made repeated calls to police, asking for help finding his white Ford Explorer. He was given the vehicle’s location, but again warned that he would violate the law again if he drove within 12 hours. Police said troopers later saw Fitchett get in his SUV and drive off.

He was pulled over just down the road from where he was initially stopped, and charged with a second DUI about 6:30 a.m. Friday, police said.

During his second arrest, Fitchett’s blood-alcohol level registered higher than the 0.08 percent limit in Maryland, police said.

Fitchett was released to a friend after the first arrest, and released on his own recognizance the second time, police said.
