DUI checkpoint planned for Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST – A DUI checkpoint will be set up by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department at an as-yet unidentified location in the city.

Deputies will be checking for drunken or unlicensed drivers from 7 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday.

The location is determined by the sheriff’s Traffic Bureau and often is based on data collected over a period of one to two years, Deputy Wayne Howard said.

“We look at the rates of alcohol-related crashes and arrests and then decide where the checkpoint will be,” he said.

The funds to operate the checkpoint are provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
