14 arrested so far in north state holiday DUI crackdown – Record

A grant-funded holiday DUI crackdown that started Friday night has netted 14 arrests so far this year in Tehama and Shasta County counties.

That’s even with last year’s arrest numbers during the same period in the Shasta County “Avoid the Six” and the Tehama County “Avoid the Five” holiday DUI campaigns, said Monty Hight, a spokesman for the campaigns.

The Avoid programs are funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Traffic Safety Administration.

The campaigns continue through the New Years weekend.

Hight said Saturday night and Sunday morning’s DUI arrests in Shasta and Tehama counties included:

–Kent Black, 41, of Anderson

–Charles Pemberton, 43, of Orland, Fla.

–Joseph Bray, 38, of Folsom.

–Kevin Koplen, 24, of Red Bluff.

–Jim Williams, 51, of Los Molinos.

–Michael Gary, 48, of Cottonwood.

Gary, Williams and Pemberton were arrested after they crashed their vehicles in separate traffic wrecks, Hight said.
