TEMPLE TERRACE — A Tampa man turned himself in on a DUI manslaughter charge in connection with a New Year’s crash that killed a pedestrian on a Temple Terrace road.

Police say that at about 2 a.m. Jan. 1, Kevin Brian Mock, 32, was driving along Bullard Parkway near Glen Avenue when his 2008 Nissan Altima struck Vestin Charles Mingo Jr., who was trying to cross the road.

Mingo, 28, died as a result of the crash, the Temple Terrace Police Department said.

After the accident, Mock had a blood-alcohol level of .08, police said, which is the level at which the state presumes impairment.

Police referred the case to the State Attorney’s Office, which later arranged for Mock to turn himself in at 10 a.m. at the Orient Road Jail, said Temple Terrace spokesman Michael Dunn.

In addition to the DUI manslaughter charge, Mock was also charged with driving under the influence and DUI with property damage.

He has previously been charged with driving under the influence, records show.

In jail logs, Mock’s employer is listed as the Saddlebrook Resort.
