Ex-Angel Kennedy 'ashamed' of DUI arrest in Newport

Baseball columnist Larry Stone of the Seattle Times spoke with former Angel Adam Kennedy this afternoon about Kennedy’s arrest on suspicion of DUI in Orange County Wednesday.

“I want to let you know this is not the typical character of me,” Kennedy said. “It’s something I’m really ashamed of, and not proud to bring to the Seattle Mariners, especially not having put on the uniform. It’s my first legal trouble — something I’m definitely not looking to ever do again.”

Kennedy told Stone he was out to dinner with friends Wednesday night and was pulled over for speeding afterwards. He was asked to take a breathalyzer test and came up “a little above the limit.” Kennedy was pulled over around 9 p.m. Wednesday, booked at Orange County jail and released early Thursday morning.

Kennedy signed a minor-league deal with the Mariners earlier this month with a non-roster invitation to spring training where he will try to win a spot on the Mariners’ Opening Day roster.

“Regrettable is an understatement,” Kennedy said.
