NU's Steinkuhler Fined $400 For DUI

January 05, 2011

Baker Steinkuhler was fined $400 and his license was suspended for 60 days after he pleaded guilty to a charge of first-offense DUI stemming from his arrest Dec. 7. The junior defensive tackle for NU was also given six months probation.

Steinkuhler, 21, was cited after a routine traffic stop. His blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.115. The legal limit is 0.08 percent.

At the time of his arrest Nebraska Coach Bo Pelini described him as “a tremendous young man who made a mistake in judgment.”

Lancaster County Judge Laurie Yardley also sentenced him to nine months probation.

Pelini suspended Steinkuhler for the Holiday Bowl. Nebraska lost to Washington, 19-7. Steinkuhler, 6-feet-6 and 290 pounds, started all 13 regular season games for the Huskers in 2010.

A fair sentence?
