A 22-year-old Morgan Hill woman was arrested this morning on suspicion of drunken driving after her car smashed into a tree, causing her 17-year-old male passenger to be taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

Morgan Hill police Sgt. Jerry Neumayer said Angela Adele Barbieri was arrested after she was released from Saint Louise Hospital after being treated for sore wrists and ankles. Her passenger, a friend who was not identified, was life-flighted, while unconscious, to Valley Medical Center. He was still in the intensive care unit this morning, police said.

Neumayer said officers were dispatched at 2:40 a.m. to Watsonville Road and La Arboleda Way. Police said officers “discovered that Barbieri was under the influence of alcohol.” And her passenger, a minor, was also suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.
